Bacup Consortium Trust are organising Owd Bacup Week, Saturday 16th February until Saturday 23 February as part of the planning activities supporting the Bacup’s heritage lottery project – Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI).
Tricia Brindle, BCT Trustee explained, “We want Bacup people – old and young to tell us what they feel is important about Bacup’s heritage and what sort of things they would like to see happening, or get involved with, to celebrate the heritage of our town.”
Cllr Andy McNae, Chair of the Bacup THI Partnership Board and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration in Rossendale added, "The Townscape Heritage bid is a one off opportunity for Bacup. It could bring £2m into the town and we have a great chance of succeeding if local people and businesses get behind it. The Owd Bacup week is a chance to celebrate Bacup's heritage whilst finding out about the bid and how you can get more involved"
The week will involve open days, family quiz with prizes, town trail walk and a chance to hear from local historians.
The week kicks off with open day at “the Nat” – Bacup’s Natural History Museum, which is bursting with curious and crazy artefacts, and will be open on Saturday 16th February between 10am and 1.30pm. Bacup library is exhibiting a fascinating display of historical photos showing places you know well as they looked over 100 years ago. We’re also delighted to announce there will be two local historians delving into the fascinating and strange tales of Owd Bacup. You can join local historian Arthur Baldwin on his guided walk of the Bacup Town Trail on Friday 22 Feb 10.30 from St James’ Square. Leaflets and brass rubbing sheets will also available at Bacup library and Bacup News. Test your knowledge on the Owd Bacup quiz - prizes for all age groups.
